The next consumer of your APIs may not be an application. It may be an AI agent.
Enterprise integration is entering a new phase. For years, we have designed APIs and integration architectures primarily for applications, systems, and human-driven processes. With the rise of AI agents, the way enterprise capabilities are discovered, consumed, and orchestrated is changing.
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is emerging as an important interaction layer between AI applications and the enterprise capabilities they need to access. MuleSoft provides an opportunity to bring this agent-driven interaction into the world of API-led connectivity, integration, security, and governance.
In this meetup, we will explore “MCP: The Next Layer of Integration” and understand how organizations can evolve from API-Led to Agent-Led architectures using MuleSoft.
We will start by understanding why MCP matters now, what MCP actually is, and where it fits within modern enterprise integration architecture. We will then explore the key MCP concepts — Tools, Resources, and Prompts — and see how they enable AI agents to interact with enterprise capabilities. MCP servers can expose tools and other capabilities for AI clients, while MuleSoft's MCP Connector can expose Mule applications, connectors, and APIs to MCP-compatible AI clients.
The session will then move from theory to architecture, comparing traditional API-Led Connectivity with emerging Agent-Led Integration patterns:
API-Led:
Application → Experience API → Process API → System API → Enterprise Systems
Agent-Led:
User → AI Agent → MCP → MuleSoft → Enterprise Capabilities → APIs & Systems
Most importantly, we will discuss why MCP does not replace API-led architecture. Instead, it can provide an agent-friendly interaction layer on top of the enterprise capabilities and APIs organizations have already invested in.
🔹 Why MCP Now? — Understanding the shift from application-driven to agent-driven integration
🔹 MCP Fundamentals & Its Role in MuleSoft — Understanding the protocol, interaction model, and where it fits
🔹 API-Led → Agent-Led Architecture Evolution — How the consumer of enterprise capabilities is changing
🔹 MCP Core Components — Tools, Resources, Prompts, and how agents interact with them
🔹 MuleSoft as an MCP Server — Making enterprise capabilities available to AI agents
🔹 Hands-on Live Demo: Building an MCP Server — See the concepts come together in a real MuleSoft implementation
🔹 Security & Governance for Agentic Integration — Identity, authorization, least privilege, data protection, observability, and governance
This session is especially relevant for:
• MuleSoft Developers
• Integration Architects
• Solution / Enterprise Architects
• API Architects
• Technical Leads
• MuleSoft Platform / API Administrators
• Anyone exploring MCP, Agentic AI, and the future of enterprise integration
Whether you're just starting to explore MCP or already working with MuleSoft and AI, this session aims to give you both the conceptual foundation and architectural perspective needed to understand where agent-led integration is heading.
Join us as we explore the next evolution of integration — from APIs that applications consume to capabilities that AI agents can discover, understand, and use.
API-led provides the foundation. MCP adds an agent-friendly interaction layer. MuleSoft helps bring integration, connectivity, and governance together.
